The Information and Data Management Software (IDMS) market in the Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ) region showed bright signs of growth in the first half of 2009, reaching a market value of US$1,056 million, research firm IDC reported recently.
“The IDMS market performed slightly better than expected. However, many organizations are still handicapped by an inability to obtain dependable data efficiently for regulatory reporting or to support fact-based decision-making,” says Sharon Tan, Research Manager of IDC’s Asia/Pacific Information Management and Analytics, Domain Research Group. “The root of the problem is often data quality.
Organizations' information systems are churning out massive volumes of data and often, vital pieces of information sits in multiple places. Demand for software that can help ensure data consistency and quality is expected to grow strongly as organizations seek to improve nimbleness and efficiencies in data management and information delivery.”
Other findings from the research include:
- The People's Republic of China (PRC) exceeded forecast by about 5% and is expected to overtake Australia as the largest market in 2013.
- Most countries in APEJ met or outperformed forecasts for 1H 2009. Strongest outperfomers are from emerging countries, such as India; and the ASEAN region, such as Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam.
- IDMS market in the APEJ region is expected to grow at a 5 -year CAGR of 8.9%, led by the Data Integration and Access Software (DIAS) market at 11.2%.
The IDMS market consists of the Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), Data Integration and Access Software, Non-relational DBMS, and Database Development and Management Tools markets.
